A proper panel beater quote in South Africa lists every part by OEM number, separates labour from paint and sundries, includes ADAS calibration where required, shows VAT separately, and states the warranty period — never accept a lump-sum 'all-in' figure.
What every quote should contain
- Vehicle make, model, year and VIN.
- Each part listed by OEM part number with unit price.
- Labour broken down by operation (strip and refit, panel work, paint prep, paint, polish).
- Labour rate per hour (typical range R450 – R900 in 2026 depending on workshop tier).
- Paint material cost (separated from labour).
- Sundries (sandpaper, masking tape, primer) listed transparently.
- ADAS calibration if any sensor location is affected.
- Wheel alignment if the suspension or front quarter is touched.
- VAT shown separately at 15%.
- Warranty period in writing (paint and panel).
Red flags
- Lump-sum "all-in" pricing without breakdown.
- "Aftermarket" or "OEM equivalent" parts without explicit consent.
- No mention of ADAS calibration on a vehicle that has it.
- Verbal warranty only.
- Quote validity less than 14 days.

Can the workshop charge more than the quote?
Only if additional damage is discovered during strip-down. The workshop must stop, contact you, supply a supplementary quote, and obtain authorisation before doing the extra work. Unauthorised additions are not enforceable.
